Where to donate ZEC
Beginner - 5 min
Last checked: October 27, 2026, on each organization's own donate page. Addresses change, so this page links to the donate pages instead of copying addresses. Always copy the address from the organization's own site. Tax notes are what each organization says about itself, not tax advice.
TL;DR
- Nine nonprofits publish a ZEC address. Five of them use a shielded address, so your gift stays private on-chain
- Four well-known nonprofits accept ZEC only at a transparent address: EFF, Freedom of the Press Foundation, the Tor Project and the Internet Archive
- Donation platforms like The Giving Block and Every.org accept ZEC for thousands of charities, but none of them says it supports shielded ZEC
- If you need a tax receipt, check each organization's note below before you give
Who is this for?
- ZEC holders who want to give to a cause they care about
- Donors who want their gift to stay private
- Anyone looking for a list of organizations to support with ZEC
If you run a nonprofit and want to accept ZEC, see Accept Private Donations as a US Nonprofit.
Shielded or transparent: why it matters
When you send ZEC from a shielded wallet to a shielded address, the amount, the sender and the receiver all stay private.
When you send to a transparent address, the gift is visible on the blockchain: anyone can see the amount, when it arrived and the organization's balance. Your shielded wallet's other activity stays private, but the gift itself is public. See The Turnstile for what becomes public when ZEC leaves a shielded pool.
Both still support the organization. Shielded just keeps the gift private.
Nonprofits that accept shielded ZEC
| Organization | What it does | Donate page | Address | Notes |
|---|
| Zcash Foundation | US nonprofit that builds Zcash infrastructure like Zebra and FROST | Donation form | Shielded (Unified) | Says it is a 501(c)(3) and that ZEC gifts are tax-deductible. The form asks for the date, amount and USD value if you want a receipt |
| Mothers Against Cruel Sentencing | US group working against unjust prison sentences | Donate | Shielded (Unified) | Says it is a 501(c)(3) and that donations are tax-deductible |

Nonprofits that accept transparent ZEC only
| Organization | What it does | Donate page | Notes |
|---|
| Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) | US digital civil liberties nonprofit | Other ways to give (Cryptocoin Donations section) | Says it can't give tax acknowledgments, gifts or membership for crypto donations |
| Freedom of the Press Foundation | US nonprofit protecting journalists, behind SecureDrop | Cryptocurrency | Contact them before donating if you need a tax receipt |
| The Tor Project | US nonprofit behind Tor and Tor Browser | Cryptocurrency | Says it is a 501(c)(3). For a receipt, email them your transaction details after you give. Its BTCPay option charges in BTC, so use the ZEC address |
| Internet Archive | US nonprofit digital library, home of the Wayback Machine | Cryptocurrency | No receipt instructions on the crypto page |
Platforms accept ZEC on behalf of many charities, usually convert it to dollars, and send you the receipt. They are an easy way to give ZEC to a charity that doesn't hold crypto itself. None of them says it accepts shielded ZEC, so expect to send from or to a transparent address.
| Platform | What it is | ZEC |
|---|
| The Giving Block | Crypto donation service used by many US nonprofits | Listed |
| Every.org | Donation platform for US charities | Listed |
| The Signatry | Christian donor-advised fund | Mentioned on its crypto page; ask them first |
How to give
- Pick an organization above and open its donate page
- Copy the ZEC address from that page, not from this wiki or a screenshot
- Check the first and last few characters after you paste it
- If you want a receipt, add your email in the memo (shielded only) or follow the organization's note above
- Send from a shielded wallet
Common mistakes to avoid
- Copying an address from a forum post, social media or an old screenshot instead of the organization's own page
- Sending from an exchange, which can link the gift to your account
- Expecting a tax receipt without checking the organization's note first
- Sending to a Sapling address from a wallet that can't send to Sapling
Result
You can:
- Find a cause that accepts ZEC
